the story

Valentina and Rhys were drawn to a cool, melancholic palette — November fog rolling off the Pacific, muted sage and terracotta florals, candlelit caves. The photographer leaned into available light exclusively, using no artificial flash, which gave the images a cinematic grain and warmth that perfectly matched the couple's vision for something timeless rather than trendy.

"The moody November light was something we worried about. She turned it into the most beautiful thing in our photos."

— Valentina & Rhys

"They asked me not to use flash, ever, under any condition — and I was grateful. November on the California coast gives you a cold, honest light that artificial sources only ever diminish. I shot the entire day at wide apertures and let the fog do what it wanted. Some of my most quietly satisfying work."
